Fisher Industries, Inc.
and Winged Weeder® have
a long history. Let's start at the
beginning.
At the turn of the
20th century, Willis Allred and
his family arrived in Southeastern
Idaho with plans to clear the land
and begin farming.

Willis
Allred, inventor of the Winged Weeder®
Even though he had
little money and very few tools,
his enthusiasm, frontier spirit
and the support of his family convinced
him that he could be successful.
Negotiating a long term lease for
80 uncleared acres at $1.00 an acre,
he began the task of clearing the
land and putting in crops.
Willis hoped that
he could support his family by planting
a large vegetable garden, milking
cows, and raising potatoes on the
rest of the land. With the
help of his wife, son, and four
daughters he cleared the land.
Crops were planted and he began
the tedious task of weeding and
watering the crops until harvest.
With his rudimentary
tools, it seemed like he and his
family were toiling from sun-up
to sun-down just keeping the weeds
from taking over his garden and
crops.
